Meetings
Meetings
are generally held on the second Tuesday of a bi-month
roster in the FM Bailey room at the Queensland Herbarium,
Mt Coot-tha commencing at 7pm. A range of activities, sometimes
including a guest speaker, usually occupy members once formalities
have concluded.
Meeting
Structure:
6:00
- 7:00 p.m. Pre-meeting
for foray database and photograph coordination. This is a meeting
for leaders of forays and photographers so that images and data
can get matched up and the images which are to be shown at the
meeting can be loaded on the laptop.
7:00
- 9:00 p.m.
General Meeting which may include:
• A short committee report
• Foray reports - an important element
of most meetings. At least five highlights from each foray. There
will probably be two reports per meeting.
• 'Show and tell' or 'what's fruiting now'.
Collections brought in by members with notes for comment and discussion;
members showing some of their own personal fungal projects.
• Member Talk or workshop prepared by a
member (~15-30 mins). This is not an 'expert talk' more like a
student seminar where you are expected to go away and prepare,
then present a seminar on something that interests you.
Some suggestions have been:
Beatrice Potter as a mycologist (Rachel Griffiths),
Fungi mating systems (Andrew Kettle),
Springbrook survey opportunities (Diana Leemon),
Wood decay fungi (Michael Powell).
• Special Guest Talk or workshop. From
time to time a Researcher or Professional in the field of Mycology
will represent recent research or an in-depth presentation of
a subject of interest.
Some previous talks have been:
• Dr John Dearnaley on “Mycorrhizal Fungi and Plant
Conservation,"
• Dr Sapphire McMullan-Fisher on “Surrogates for Cryptogam
Conservation Planning - a Tasmanian Trial.”
• Dr David Holdom on “Entomophthorales – Fungal
Insect Pathogens.”
