Education
QMS encourage member to increase their personal knowledge
of macrofungi, and the important role of fungi in environmental
function, ecosystem diversity and health.
One of our main focuses is community education through conducting:
Mycology
my-col-o-gy. (from the Greek mykes , meaning "fungus")
1. the branch of biology dealing with fungi.
2 .the fungi found in an area.
Knowledge about Australian fungi is limited and funding for fungal
research is largely non-existent. The field is huge and relatively
unresearched.
The visible fungus is the fruiting body of the unseen organism much
as a flower is the fruiting body of a plant. The largest component
of the fungus is the mycelium which reside in the substrate. To
mycologists, fungi can be just as beautiful as the most exotic flower
blossom. There are both macrofungi (the fruiting bodies are visible
to the naked eye) to microfungi (some are very minute).
